This exhibition, which takes its title from Joan Didion’s 1979 essay Holy Water, pairs the perspectives of two intermedia artists who work with materials and ephemera from the urban and suburban Southern California landscape. Ignon and Jahnke’s work projects a visual memoir of an experience within a nebulous “geographic nowhere.” Born and raised in Los Angeles and San Diego respectively, the two artists have long been immersed in and inspired by the dichotomies, dreams, demons–and droughts–of Southern California. Their work attempts to re-define, critique, and understand the cinematic projections of their landscapes, both actual and imagined.
